The UN suspends aid in part of South Sudan after the murder of two collaborators

The United Nations announced this Monday that it has suspended humanitarian aid in the southern region of South Sudan, after two trucks were set on fire and their drivers killed while returning from a delivery of humanitarian materials.

“The two drivers were shot dead and the two trucks were burned and destroyed,” said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in a statement cited by the French news agency France-Presse (AFP). in which they say The United Nations “condemns this murderous attack in the strongest possible terms” and announces the “suspension of the provision of aid to the region.”

The attack on the two humanitarian aid trucks occurred on Saturday morning, when the vehicles were returning to Juba, after having delivered humanitarian aid to families and children in Yei, Central Equatoria State, the state where the capital is located. . Juba, and borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

In the statement, the United Nations again warned that these types of attacks put at risk the safe delivery of aid in South Sudan, the most dangerous country in the world for humanitarian workers.

According to the UN, since the beginning of the year, 24 aid workers have been killed in the country.
