The Russian Defense Ministry stated this Tuesday that it had repelled several Ukrainian attacks on Monday night, with a missile and 11 drones, against the Belgorod, Crimea and Kursk regions.
“Around 11 p.m. [21h00 em Lisboa]”Another attempt by the kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack using unmanned aerial vehicles has been stopped,” the ministry said.
“Air defense systems destroyed two Ukrainian drones over the Kursk region,” the same source added on the Telegram messaging platform.
Just half an hour earlier, the ministry said it had destroyed two more drones over Kursk in western Russia, near the border with Ukraine.
In the Belgorod border region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that seven drones had been shot down.
The Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, was also the target of Ukrainian attacks on Monday night, and regional authorities announced the interception of a missile.
“Our army repels an attack on Crimea. According to preliminary information, the anti-aircraft defense shot down a missile near the Belbek airfield. Efforts are still continuing,” Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said on Telegram.
The Crimean authorities issued an air raid warning at 8:57 p.m. (6:57 p.m. in Lisbon), throughout the peninsula, which was suspended an hour later.
Ukrainian forces have carried out a series of attacks on Russian positions in Crimea since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, but these attacks have intensified in recent months as Kiev has obtained more Western weapons.
The Ukrainian military said on Monday it had killed the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in an attack on the Russian fleet headquarters in Sevastopol, Crimea, carried out on Friday.
“Thirty-four officers, including the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, were killed” in the attack, Ukrainian special forces declared on Telegram, without providing evidence.
“One hundred and five were injured. The headquarters building cannot be repaired,” said the same source.
The France-Presse news agency could not verify these claims, because Moscow practically does not report on casualties suffered in the Ukrainian war.
Russia reported this Friday that only one soldier was missing after the attack that severely damaged the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Ukraine has vowed to retake all territories occupied by Moscow, including Crimea.
