Portugal and Mexico agreed to cooperate in port and energy matters, indicated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after a meeting between João Gomes Cravinho and the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
“Portugal and Mexico recognized the role of Portuguese companies in projects of “relevant interest proposed by the current administration and exchanged points of view on the possibility of promoting cooperation initiatives in the field of ports and energy,” indicates a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The document was released after the meeting that took place this Tuesday between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Alicia Bárcena in Mexico City.
Portugal and Mexico agreed that the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries, which will be celebrated on October 20, 2024, constitutes an “opportunity to deepen bilateral political dialogue and increase cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.”
“The bilateral legal framework will be reviewed with the objective of advancing the Agreements pending signature and identifying those that merit updating. In this sense, efforts will be made to strengthen cooperation in the Ibero-American, bi-regional and multilateral sphere,” he stated. He said yes in the statement.
Portugal and Mexico also reiterated the support of both countries for the modernization process of the Mexico-European Union Global Agreement, a “strategic instrument at both the bilateral and bi-regional level.”
Regarding the international agenda, “they expressed their solidarity with the Ukrainian people after the Russian aggression and support for their independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as established by the relevant UN resolutions, to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations,” states the note published on the Diplomatic Portal.
