Yerevan calls the exodus of Armenians an act of “ethnic cleansing”

The Armenian Prime Minister considers that the foreseeable departure of all citizens of Armenian origin from the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave is an act of “ethnic cleansing” by Azerbaijan.

“The exodus of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh continues. Our analysis shows that in the coming days there will be no Armenians left in Nagorno-Karabakh. This is an act of ethnic cleansing against which we have warned the international community,” declared Nikol Pachynian. at a government meeting in Yerevan.

Armenia’s prime minister called on the international community to act and “punish Azerbaijan” for “ethnic cleansing,” without providing further details about the accusation.

“If the convictions [da comunidade internacional] are not followed by appropriate political and legal decisions, these convictions will become acts of consent to what is happening,” said Nikol Pachynian.

Nearly half the population of the Nagorno-Karabakh region in the Caucasus has fled to Armenia since Azerbaijan’s offensive in recent days.

There are currently 53,629 refugees in Armenia, according to the latest data published on Thursday by the Yerevan executive.

Meanwhile, the separatist government of Nagorno-Karabakh announced today that it will dissolve and that the unrecognized republic will cease to exist on January 1, 2024, according to France Presse.

This announcement comes after Azerbaijan carried out a military offensive to regain full control of the separatist region and demanded that Armenian troops in Nagorno-Karabakh lay down their arms and the separatist government be dismantled.
