Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that the day was “very sunny” in Ukraine and the temperature was around 20 degrees Celsius, but “unfortunately it was cloudy in Crimea”. “But it was also hot,” he joked.
Zelensky commented in this way on the explosion that partially destroyed the bridge connecting this peninsula to Russia, in his daily video published on Facebook.
“Whatever the clouds are, Ukrainians know what to do. And they know that our future is bright. It is a future without inhabitants. Throughout our territory, especially in Crimea,” added.
The Ukrainian president has once again guaranteed the safety of Russian soldiers willing to lay down their weapons and surrender, recalling that his country “abides by all international standards and conventions”.
The explosion of a truck caused a major fire and damaged the bridge, road and rail supply to Crimea, a Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014.
The bridge is also a symbolic project, built at great expense and inaugurated in 2018 by Russian President Vladimir Putin himself.
Ukraine has not officially claimed responsibility for the explosion.
