South Korea accused North Korea on Saturday of firing a ballistic missile toward its east coast in the latest in a series of weapons tests over the past few days.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said the launch took place in the early hours of Sunday (local time, eight hours more than Lisbon), but gave no further details on how far the projectile had traveled.
The Japanese government has also announced that North Korea has fired what appears to be a ballistic missile.
The launch, the seventh in a series of weapons tests conducted by North Korea in two weeks, came hours after the United States and South Korea ended another naval exercise off the eastern coast of the Korean peninsula..
An American aircraft carrier was involved in the exercises.
The North Korean military warned today that the presence of the US aircraft carrier near the Korean peninsula has a “significant negative effect” on regional security.
