King Philip VI, in his inauguration speech for the 5th edition of the La Toja Forum – Vínculo Atlântico, appealed to the need to “restore and increase optimism and confidence in our representative democracies and their values in order to evolve towards freer societies, more integrated and undoubtedly more prosperous”.
The King of Spain also emphasized the importance for Spain and Europe of Latin America’s continued presence at the forum, stating that “the countries of this great space are not only part of our culture and history, but also of our future.”
The 5th edition of this meeting for business, political and social leaders, which ends Saturday, September 30, has the participation of Mariano Rajoy, former President of the Government of Spain, Sebastián Piñera, former President of Chile, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, President of more the PP and leader of the opposition.
In this edition of the Foro-La Toja Prize, Josep Piqué was awarded to the Association of Afghan Women in Spain (AMAE), on behalf of all Afghan women who suffer from the intolerance and persecution of the Taliban regime. The award was accepted by Sunita Nasir Taree, civil engineer and United Nations employee who took refuge in Spain, who stated that “we do not want charity, but independence. Our life has not been easy and we have support and opportunities necessary to offer our talent for the benefit of the Spanish people who welcomed us.”
