Six people were killed in Zimbabwe this Friday when a mining company plane they were traveling in crashed in the southwestern part of the country, Spanish news agency EFE reported, citing local police.
The plane, a Cessna 206 from the Rio Zim company, had taken off from the Zimbabwean capital Harare and was headed to the Murowa diamond mine in Masvingo province, where it crashed locally between 7:30 am and 8:00 am. time. , less than two hours in Lisbon.
National police spokesman Deputy Commissioner Paul Nyathi said emergency services were called and investigators went to the scene of the tragedy.
“We can confirm that the plane crashed in Masvingo province this morning and that six people on board died in the accident,” Nyathi told EFE, adding: “Police have not yet determined the cause of the accident and the investigation continues.”
In a statement, the spokesperson said the dead were “two Zimbabweans and four foreigners.”
This is the second plane crash involving a Rio Zim aircraft in eight months.
