The unemployment rate fell in August to 6.4% in the euro zone and 5.9% in the European Union (EU), according to data published this Monday by Eurostat.
In the euro zone, the unemployment rate decreased both year-on-year (6.7%) and compared to that registered in July (6.5%), and in the EU the indicator also slowed down compared to August 2022 (6.1 %) and in chain (6.0%).
The European statistical service estimates that in August there were 12.837 million unemployed, of which 10.856 million people were in the euro area.
Among the Member States, Spain recorded the highest unemployment rate (11.5%), followed by Greece (10.9%), Estonia and Sweden (7.6% each).
The Czech Republic (2.5%), Malta (2.7%) and Poland (2.8%) had the lowest unemployment rates in August.
In Portugal, unemployment stood at 6.2%, up from 6.0% a year ago, but falling from 6.3% in July.
