Russian investigators said on Saturday that three people died after a truck exploded on the bridge between Russia and Crimea, adding that the vehicle’s owner had been identified.
“According to preliminary information, three people have been killed,” the Russian Commission of Inquiry said in a statement.
The same source added that the three dead were likely “passengers of a car that was close to the truck that exploded”.
The same statement said the bodies of two victims – “a man and a woman” – were recovered from the water, adding that their identities were confirmed.
No details were given about the third body.
The explosion happened early Saturday morning, with authorities saying two banners had partially collapsed.
Russian investigators said an unnamed resident of the Krasnodar region of southern Russia owned the car.
“Investigative actions were launched at his residence,” the researchers said, adding that “documentation on the route movement” of the truck was studied.
