Crimean authorities attribute bridge blast to ‘Ukrainian vandalism’

Crimean authorities on Saturday blamed the explosion that partially destroyed the bridge between Russia and Crimea and “Ukrainian vandalism”.

“Ukrainian vandals have managed to reach the Crimean Bridge with their bloody hands. Now they have something to be proud of: during 23 years of management they have not built anything worthwhile in Crimea, but they managed to Russian bridge,” said the chairman of the Crimean State Council Vladimir Konstantinov.

“This is the whole essence of the Kiev regime and the Ukrainian state. Death and destruction is all they get,” he wrote on his Telegram social media account.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on the same social network that “the response of the Kiev regime to the destruction of civilian infrastructure bears witness to its terrorist nature”.

The commission of inquiry, along with the National Anti-Terrorism Agency, said Saturday that it was the explosion of seven fuel tanks on a convoy headed for the Crimean peninsula, according to preliminary information.

The bridge is a major access point that Russia built after it occupied and annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, in violation of international law.
