The Russian security services (FSB) denounced in a statement this Sunday a “considerable increase” in Ukrainian fire against Russian territories bordering Ukraine, in which one person was killed and five were injured during the last week.
“Since the beginning of October, the number of attacks by Ukrainian armed formations on Russian border territories has increased sharply,” said the FSB, which is also responsible for border control.
This is especially the Belgorod region, bordering Kharkiv in Ukraine, where Kyiv forces have recaptured thousands of square kilometers of territory since the beginning of September, even to the border. The Russian regions of Bryansk and Kursk are also in the crosshairs, according to the FSB.
“100 bombings of 32 locations were recorded”
“During the last week there have been more than 100 bombings of 32 locations, with the use of multiple rocket launch systems, artillery, mortars and drones,” he continued.
According to the FSB, one “local resident was killed and five people were injured, including a child” in these Ukrainian bombardments that also destroyed two power plants, eleven residential buildings and two administrative buildings. Eight border posts were also damaged, according to the same source.
Russian territories had already been attacked several times in the last seven months. On September 12, an attack at a Russian border crossing left one dead and four injured and damaged homes and power lines.
In July, the Russian army accused Kyiv of having fired three missiles at the city of Belgorod, the capital of the region of the same name. In April, it was an oil deposit that was attacked according to Russia by Ukrainian helicopters, about forty kilometers from the border.
