Kiev and Moscow confirm Zaporijia is out

Authorities in Ukraine and Russia confirmed on Saturday that the Zaporijia nuclear power plant was once again disconnected from the power grid after the recent nighttime attacks on which the two countries mutually blame each other.

Ukrainian energy company Energoatom confirmed this Saturday morning that “the last line of communication with the electrical system was cut at 00:59 local time (22:59 on Friday in Lisbon)” and that the plant now only works with diesel generators.

Russian administrator of the region, recently annexed by Russia, Vladimir Rogov, said the plant was shut down “due to bombing of Ukrainian troops”.

According to Kiev, the factory will only be able to operate in this way for 10 days.

“It is necessary to restore and restore the functioning of the communication lines of the Zaporijia nuclear power plant with the electrical system,” warns Energoatom, in a statement released this Saturday on the social network Facebook.

The plant, the largest in Europe and currently under the control of the Russian army, was already disconnected from the electricity grid on September 5.

Considered one of the great strategic points of the war, it has been the target of mutual accusations by Russia and Ukraine practically since the beginning of the conflict, with both sides carrying out bombing raids that constantly disrupt the operation of the installation.
