Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday warned the Western Balkans and other European countries about the “particularly dangerous scenario” of Russia’s expansion plans, given the possible restoration of military capacity in 2028.

“Russia is now considering several scenarios for the coming years and one of them is particularly dangerous: if there is any pause in the aggression against Ukraine, if Russia is put on hold now, in 2028, the Kremlin will be able to restore military potential. which we have destroyed and for which we will have enough strength […] Russian expansion,” declared Volodymyr Zelensky.

During the opening session of the third summit of the European Political Community, in the Spanish city of Granada, the President of Ukraine stated: “In addition to Ukraine, it is certainly the Baltic states and certainly other countries where Russian contingents are present. “

“This is clear information from our secret services and we are forwarding it directly to you. Russia is trying to suspend the situation in order to preserve itself, learn from its mistakes and prepare to move forward,” Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized. addressing the approximately fifty leaders of European countries present at the summit.

“Remember that the most dangerous enemy is the one who has actually drawn conclusions and prepared for the next attack, especially based on those conclusions. Moscow has clearly outlined its ambition to seize more imperial space to prevent Europe from becoming a place of free and functional nations. democracies and the breaking of European unity and war is Russia’s basic instrument for this purpose.” warned.

Volodymyr Zelensky even highlighted the attacks on Moldova and Georgia.

‘We all need some form of support […] and all these summits must result in security guarantees so that Russia is not tempted to try to break its sovereignty,” the official further urged.

Nearly fifty leaders from European countries will meet in Granada this Thursday to debate the continent’s future at a new summit of the European Political Community, a forum established in 2022 after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The meeting is organized by the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), and will take place in the second half of this year, and takes place on the eve of an informal meeting, also in Granada, of the European Council, where the leaders of the 27 countries of the community bloc reside.

The aim is for the debates in Granada between European leaders to lay the foundation for the European future, the Europe intended for the next decade.

The meeting of the European Political Community will bring together delegations from around 50 countries, including the 27 EU countries and the Presidents of the Commission and the European Council, Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel respectively, as well as the President of the European Political Community Community. Ukraine is one of the countries of the European Political Community and, like other states in this community, is a formal candidate for accession to the EU.

This is the third meeting of the European Political Community, an intergovernmental forum to discuss political and strategic issues related to the future of Europe, created after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and an idea launched by French President Emmanuel Macron.
