The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made it clear on Thursday that there is no data on injuries of Portuguese nationality in the bus accident on Tuesday evening in the Venice region, which left 21 dead, including two Portuguese.
On Wednesday evening, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) source said two Portuguese were killed and one injured in the bus crash in the Venice region of northeastern Italy.
In information sent to Lusa on Thursday, the MNE indicates that Italian authorities have just officially confirmed the death of two Portuguese citizens, after the bus accident in Venice, and have not reported any injuries involving Portuguese nationality.
The MNE states that it is monitoring the situation through the Portuguese embassy in Rome and is already in contact with the relatives of the deceased couple.
The mayor of Venice announced on Wednesday afternoon, according to Italian media, the nationalities of all the victims of the bus crash: nine Ukrainians, four Romanians, three Germans, two Portuguese, one Italian [o motorista]a Croat and a South African.
Venice authorities have asked the Italian government to declare three days of mourning in the region over the deaths of 21 people in a bus that fell from a viaduct.
In addition to 21 deaths, the accident caused at least 15 injuries.
The bus passengers were mainly young foreign tourists returning to Venice from a nearby campsite.
The vehicle was an electric bus that caught fire after falling from a height of about 15 meters, knocking over the protection of the overpass.
