Zelensky criticizes the EU’s slowness in approving new sanctions against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the European Union’s (EU) slowness in approving a new package of sanctions against Russia at the end of the European Political Community summit in Granada, Spain, EFE reported.

Speaking to journalists present at the summit that took place over the Spanish presidency of the EU, Zelensky stated that his government continues to work “daily” so that the 27 EU countries agree on new measures against Russia as soon as possible.

“The twelfth sanctions package is unfortunately coming along more slowly,” Zelenskiy said.

The Ukrainian head of state pointed to Russia’s nuclear industry and Gazprom’s board of directors as some of the Russian sectors and bodies that Ukraine hopes will be sanctioned by the EU.

Zelensky also commented on the words of former European Commission President Jean-Claude Junker, who stated in an interview that Ukraine is a fundamentally corrupt country, far from meeting the requirements for EU membership.

The Ukrainian president classified Junker’s statements as a “Russian story” and criticized the fact that the former European Commission president never visited Ukraine during his term of office.
