US President Joe Biden said on Friday there is a “possibility” to meet his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in San Francisco in November on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Cooperation Forum summit.
“This meeting has not yet been scheduled, but it is a possibility,” Biden said in response to a journalist at the White House.
Biden and Xi could agree to participate in that Forum (APEC, its abbreviation in English), which will take place in San Francisco in mid-November.
The foreign ministers of the 21 member states are expected in the first few days, while the heads of state and government will meet on November 16 and 17.
Xi has not yet confirmed his presence.
The last time Biden and Xi met was in November 2022 in Bali, Indonesia, on the occasion of the G20 summit.
Biden sees China as the US’s main competitor but has reiterated that he does not want a conflict with the Asian state.
