The 6.3 magnitude earthquake that shook western Afghanistan on Saturday killed at least 14 people and injured 78 others, Mohammad Taleb Shahid, public health director of Herat province, revealed .
The director of public health of Herat province, quoted by the French news agency AFP, explained that this balance is preliminary as it is made based on the figures reported to the central hospital so far.

“We were told that people are buried under the rubble,” he added, fearing the death toll could rise if bodies are found under the rubble of buildings.
Five consecutive earthquakes, measuring up to 6.3, shook western Afghanistan on Saturday morning.
The biggest shock occurred at 12:11 local time (four hours more than in Portugal), at a depth of 14 kilometers and 33 kilometers from the city of Zindah Jan, located in Herat province, western Afghanistan.
Four consecutive replicates of 5.5 followed; 4.7; 6.3; and 5.9 respectively within an hour.
