State of war officially activated in Israel

Israel’s Security Council, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, officially activated a state of war in the country, allowing the military to carry out “significant military activities” as part of the war with Hamas, media reported.

Although Netanyahu had already declared that the country was at war, as soon as the Hamas offensive began, this official decision is necessary, according to Israel’s Basic Law.

The decision was finally adopted in a meeting between the prime minister and those responsible for Israeli security, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Chief of the General Staff, General Herzi Halevi.

Netanyahu had already warned on Saturday that Israel has embarked on “a long and difficult war” and that it will continue “without respite until the objectives are achieved.”

“We entered a long and difficult war. The war was imposed on us by a murderous attack by Hamas,” he began writing, in a publication on his social network account X, formerly Twitter.

The Israeli leader explained that “the first phase will end in a few hours, destroying most of the enemy forces that penetrated” into Israeli territory.

“At the same time, we began the offensive formation and this will continue without reservation and without respite until we achieve our objectives. We will restore security to the citizens of Israel and we will win,” he concluded.

The Islamic group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory this Saturday, in an operation called “Al-Aqsa Storm”, with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.

At least 300 people died in Israel after the attack by the Islamic movement Hamas, while at least 313 Palestinians died as part of the Jewish State’s strong air counteroffensive on Gaza.
