Strikes in Ukraine: Zelensky asks Scholz and Macron for a “tough” response to Russia

In particular, the Ukrainian president called for a reinforcement of the Ukrainian air defense and the holding of an emergency meeting of the G7.

An expected reaction. During an emergency phone call made Monday morning after the violent attacks that hit Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky asked Emmanuel Macron and his counterpart Olaf Scholz for a “tough” response to Russia.

“We discussed strengthening our air defense, the need for a tough European and international reaction, as well as increased pressure on Russia,” the Ukrainian leader said on Twitter after urgent talks with his German and French counterparts.

In the process, Emmanuel Macron expressed “extreme concern” following the series of Russian attacks on Ukraine on Monday and promised to increase France’s military aid to Ukraine.

“He reaffirmed his full and complete support alongside President Zelensky, and France’s commitment to increase its support for Ukraine in response to the needs expressed by Kyiv, including in terms of military equipment,” the Elysee said.

Volodymr Zelensky also called for an emergency meeting of the G7, which could take place on Tuesday.
