Separatists blow up twenty houses in Corsica. The island’s autonomy is at stake

About 20 explosions claimed by separatists hit homes in Corsica between Sunday evening and Monday, 10 days after the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron, who proposed greater autonomy for the island.

According to the authorities, the affected homes are often second or holiday homes.

So far, no serious injuries have been reported by authorities, who have notified the French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office.

The National Liberation Front of Corsica (FLNC) took responsibility for these explosions and guaranteed that there is no possibility of a “common fate with France” in a statement to the Corse-Matin daily.

‘France out’ concludes in a four-line text.

These incidents take place about ten days after the visit of President Macron, who proposed “autonomy within the Republic” to Corsica and warned that this “historic moment” will not happen “without” or “against” the French state.

For almost two years, Corsica has seen an increase in the number of arsons and explosions, mainly targeting second homes.

These explosions were frequently claimed, some by the FLNC, others by the GCC movement (Ghjuventù Clandestina Corsa).

In a statement in early August, the FLNC called for the creation of a “platform of patriotic resistance” in the face of “disproportionate colonization” and a “process of destruction of the Corsican people.”

According to a judicial source, in August 50 investigations had been opened in Corsica since the beginning of the year “concerning arson or destruction of various kinds” by the National Public Prosecutor’s Office for Anti-Terrorism. In 2022 there were 22, in 2021 three and in 2020 four.
