The commander of the UN mission in Lebanon calls for “moderation” between the parties

The commander of the peace mission in Lebanon affirmed this Monday in Beirut that he maintains contact with all parties and called for restraint in the face of a possible extension of the conflict between Israeli forces and the Palestinian militia Hamas.

Following the latest incidents on Israel’s northern border, where there are fears of a possible intervention by the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, the Spanish Aroldo Lázaro, head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), urged the parties to use the coordination mechanisms of the UN mission. to “avoid further escalation and loss of life.”

The Israeli Army declared this Monday that it had shot down “several militiamen” who entered Israeli territory from Lebanon and confirmed that several helicopters had carried out attacks in the area. Missile fire was also recorded from the Lebanese side.

The Islamic group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory this Saturday under the name of operation “Al-Aqsa Storm”, with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.

In response to the surprise attack, Israel bombed several Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip from the air, in an operation it called “Iron Swords.”

The attacks and the military response left hundreds dead and more than a thousand injured.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is “at war” with Hamas.
