Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia on Monday of aiding the Islamist group Hamas in its attack on Israel last Saturday.
“We are convinced that Russia was somehow present in Hamas’ operations.”Zelensky said in an interview with French television channel France 2.
“According to our intelligence services, there are signs that lead us to believe that Russia has already assisted certain terrorist operations.”added the Ukrainian head of state, who professes the Jewish religion.
“It’s not the first time, [a Rússia] it has already done this in Syria, Ukraine and Crimea”Zelensky said.
‘Russia is trying to destabilize the world order’he added.
The Islamist group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory on Saturday, dubbed Operation ‘Al-Aqsa Storm’, with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.
In response to the surprise attack, Israel bombed several Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip from the air, in an operation it dubbed “Iron Swords”.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is “at war” with Hamas.
This Monday, Israeli authorities increased the number of Israelis killed by Hamas to 900 and the number of wounded to 2,600.
In the Gaza Strip, authorities reported this Monday that 687 people have already been killed and 3,726 injured by Israeli bombardments over the past three days.
