The Israeli army said on Tuesday that the situation at the border with Lebanon is calm and expressed itself “fully prepared for future scenarios”, following the incidents that resulted in the death of an Israeli soldier and members of Hezbollah.
“No more events are taking place in the north at this time,” an Israeli army spokesman said. who indicated that commander Alim Abdullah was killed in combat while “protecting residents,” in the context of Monday’s clashes, says a statement published on the Israeli army’s website.
The official emphasized that “several operational situations occurred at the northern border” and that “the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) acted decisively, on land and in the air, with speed and precision.”
In this sense, he added that “During the incident, Hezbollah suffered deaths and injuries,” after which the paramilitary political organization confirmed at least three deaths in Israeli attacks in response to a ground incursion, for which the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group claimed responsibility.
Hezbollah confirmed the firing of projectiles from southern Lebanon, in what it described as a response to the killing of its members by Israeli forces, amid tensions following the offensive launched by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Saturday.
The Islamist group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory on Saturday, dubbed Operation ‘Al-Aqsa Storm’, with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.
In response to the surprise attack, Israel bombed several Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip from the air, in an operation it dubbed “Iron Swords”.
Israeli authorities have confirmed more than 900 deaths and 2,700 injuries since the start of the Hamas offensive – backed by Islamic Jihad – while more than 680 Palestinians have been killed and 3,700 injured as a result of Israeli bombing and attacks on the Gaza Strip. There are more than fifteen operations and clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank.
