Three Palestinian journalists were killed Tuesday morning following an Israeli airstrike on a residential building near Gaza City’s fishing port, according to the journalists’ union and a public official.
In a statement, the local journalists’ union announced “the martyrdom of three journalists in the Gaza Strip during the current Israeli aggression.”
The director of the Hamas government’s press office, Salameh Maarouf, said the victims were: Said al-Taweel, Mohammed Sobboh and Hisham Nawajhah.
The Islamic group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory this Saturday, called Operation “Al-Aqsa Storm”, with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.
In response to the surprise attack, Israel bombed several Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip from the air, in an operation it called “Iron Swords.”
