WHO calls for the opening of a humanitarian corridor for the Gaza Strip

The World Health Organization (WHO) called this Tuesday for the opening of a humanitarian corridor to the Gaza Strip, blocked and bombed by Israeli forces, after Hamas attacks on Saturday in Israel.

“A humanitarian corridor is needed to provide essential medical supplies to populations,” WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said at a news conference in Geneva.

Jasarevic stated that the organization is working on this situation with “partners.”

The head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who was in Cairo this Monday during a regional meeting of the organization, spoke with the Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, about the possibility of transporting essential products through his country to the hospitals of Gaza.

“We need these supplies. Hospitals cannot function without fuel, without electricity. The supplies we intend to transport are already at a low level, so we need these products to reach” the Gaza Strip, Jasarevic insisted.

Israeli authorities have confirmed more than 900 dead and 2,700 injured since the start of the Hamas offensive, launched on Saturday and supported by the Islamic Jihad group, while more than 680 Palestinians and 3,700 have been injured following Israeli bombings and attacks in the fringe. , to which more than 15 are added in operations and clashes with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank.
