Red Cross suspends operations in Ukraine after attacks

For security reasons, the Red Cross has temporarily suspended all operations in Ukraine.

This comes after Russia’s attacks on kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, which killed and injured dozens of civilians. According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia fired 83 missiles and 17 Iranian-made drones at Ukraine on Monday morning, of which 43 were shot down by air defense.

The attacks also reached the Khmelnytskiy, Lviv, Dnipro, Vinnitsa, Zaporizhia, Sumy, Kharkiv and Khitomir regions.

“For security reasons, our teams have suspended their operations,” confirmed a spokesman for the International Red Cross, quoted by Reuters.

In kyiv, metro traffic was disrupted as stations in the Ukrainian capital were turned into bomb shelters and car traffic was also blocked in the city center. At least eight people died and 24 were injured.

The Russian shelling came after an explosion on Saturday damaged the Kerch Bridge, between Russia and the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, annexed in 2014. Moscow blamed the blast on the bridge on a Ukrainian terror attack.
