Israeli warplanes bombed an Islamic university in the Gaza Strip linked to the Palestinian Hamas movement on Wednesday, according to a campus official.
“The intense airstrikes completely destroyed some buildings of the Islamic University,” Ahmed Orabi, head of the university, told Agence France Presse.
The same source indicated that no one can enter the building due to the fires, stones and debris scattered on the roads surrounding the university.
Israel continues its massive air offensive against Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, four days after the attack launched by the Islamic movement from the Palestinian enclave.
The Islamic group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory this Saturday, called Operation “Al-Aqsa Storm”, with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.
In response to the surprise attack, Israel bombed several Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip from the air, in an operation it called “Iron Swords.”
The armed conflict has already caused more than 2,000 deaths on both sides and thousands of injuries.
