The death toll in the Gaza Strip increased from 950 to 1,055, the Palestinian Ministry of Health updated this Wednesday, following an increase in Israeli bombing in the enclave controlled by the Islamist movement Hamas.
“We have at least 1,055 martyrs and also 5,184 people suffering from various injuries,” the ministry indicated in a new death toll, revised upwards, four days after the major offensive launched by Hamas against Israel.
The Islamist group Hamas launched an unprecedented land, sea and air attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip on Saturday, in the largest escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in decades.
In addition to killing hundreds of people in Israel, Hamas has kidnapped more than a hundred Israelis and foreigners and is holding them hostage in the Gaza Strip.
The attack prompted Israel to declare war on the Palestinian extremist group and respond with bombings against the Gaza Strip.
Since then, the conflict has caused more than 1,200 deaths on the Israeli side and 1,055 in Gaza since Saturday, according to data updated today by both sides.
