The president of the European Parliament (EP), Roberta Metsola, confirmed this Wednesday Brussels’ willingness to “mediate” solutions to the conflict between Israel and Palestine and called for the “immediate release” of the hostages.
On the street, in front of the European Parliament, in a ceremony before MEPs and members of the Jewish community, speaking alongside Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen, Roberta Metsola paid tribute to the victims, considering that the attack against civilians repeats one of The worst moments in world history.
“October 7 is a day that will go down in global infamy. The world has witnessed the murder of Jews for the simple fact of being Jews, once again. In Israel,” lamented Roberta Metsola.

“We are here with the President of the European Council, with the President of the European Commission and with all of you, as one, to express our solidarity, condemn the terrible acts of terror and murder and demand the immediate release of the hostages,” he appealed.
The president of the European Parliament offers mediation by the European Union, after the attack on Israel, but clarifies that Brussels does not see Hamas as an interlocutor in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
“Europe is willing to help mediate resolutions. But there is no justification for terrorism. Hamas is a terrorist organization. It does not represent the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.”
Considering that Hamas “offers no solutions,” Metsola stated that the group was responsible for the “bloodshed” and that “on October 7, Hamas killed more than a thousand [pessoas, entre as quais] innocent babies, children, women and men, and is still holding about 100 other people hostage.
“They opened fire on hundreds of young people at a music event, killing indiscriminately, including EU citizens. They kidnapped girls and boys. They picked up elderly Holocaust survivors and dragged them out of their homes. They paraded the dead through the streets like “If they were trophies,” he stated, considering that “this is terror in its worst form.”
