Israeli forces attacked 750 targets in Gaza overnight

Israel bombed around 750 targets in the Gaza Strip overnight, mainly Hamas barracks, command posts, weapons depots and tunnels, the Israeli military announced.

The current offensive follows the Islamist group’s unprecedented incursion into Israel on Saturday, which left more than 1,300 dead, according to Israeli authorities.

Since then, Israel has been bombing the Gaza Strip, causing more than 1,500 deaths, according to data updated by Gaza health authorities.

Israel used dozens of fighter-bombers in attacks during the night, according to the Israeli army, cited by the Spanish agency EFE.

Buildings housing senior Hamas officials used as command centers, military communications centers, tunnels and 12 Islamist group targets in multi-story buildings were destroyed, the military said.

Soldiers from a special unit killed three members of Hamas in Gaza City, which specializes in firing rockets into Israeli territory, according to the military statement, which released images of an explosion in an isolated building.

The military also reported that they bombed the residence of a member of the Nukhba (elite) commandos, specialized in naval operations.

They also said they had attacked a house believed to be that of the brother of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza.

Information about military operations cannot be immediately independently verified.

Sinwar is the Hamas leader usually present in the Gaza Strip, while the top leader, Ismail Haniye, has been in exile in Watar for several years.

Since the start of the war, the whereabouts of Sinwar and other senior Hamas officials in the Gaza Strip have been unknown, and they have not made any public statements in recent days.

The Israeli army today called on civilians to withdraw from the northern Gaza Strip, including Gaza City, to the south of the territory, suggesting an imminent ground operation.

The UN said that it is a movement of more than a million people, in a small territory with 2.3 million inhabitants.

Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007, is considered a terrorist group by the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and Israel.
