UNICEF Portugal launched an appeal this Friday for urgent humanitarian aid for child victims of the Gaza crisis, where thousands of children were killed and injured, and these numbers are expected to increase in the coming hours and days.
“UNICEF is in Gaza and urgently needs to be able to strengthen its capacity to distribute vital goods and humanitarian aid, in order to carry out the mission entrusted to it,” says a statement distributed by Unicef Portugal.
This United Nations organization highlights that “the situation is deteriorating every second and children continue to pay the highest price for violence.”
For this reason, UNICEF Portugal is appealing for donations, which are essential to respond to this emergency.
“Death and devastation plague the streets of Gaza, with homes, schools and hospitals destroyed, leading to massive internal displacement. Children and families are being left without food, water, electricity, medicine and safe access to hospitals after of days of armed conflict and the cutting of all supply routes,” indicates the organization.
For James Elder, spokesperson for UNICEF, “the humanitarian situation has reached catastrophic levels and yet all reports point to more attacks. In all wars, those who suffer the most are children.”
UNICEF says that, in collaboration with its partners, it is on the ground in the Gaza Strip, providing immediate humanitarian assistance, including access to clean water, food, medical supplies, fuel and mental health and psychosocial support, to address the critical needs. needs of affected children and families.
