The Louvre, in Paris, France, was evacuated this Saturday and is closed for “security reasons,” the museum announced on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
According to a police source cited by the television channel BFMTV, the Louvre received a bomb threat, which caused all visitors to withdraw.
“For security reasons, the Louvre Museum is closed today, Saturday, October 14. People who book a visit during the day will receive a refund,” the post reads.
The museum had already been the subject of threats after the knife attack that left one dead and three injured in Arras, but decided to open its doors at 9 in the morning, ending up being evacuated at the end of the morning.
A teacher was killed and three people were injured at a secondary school in Arras by a 20-year-old Russian-Chechen youth in an Islamist attack this Friday.
The Vigipirate anti-terror alert was raised to the highest level and as of Monday up to 7,000 soldiers from Operation Sentinelle were deployed across France.
