“I live in Jerusalem and I will die here.” On the streets of the Old City, fear is a “disease” for Palestinians

In Jerusalem, Palestinians who usually go to work have been in their homes in the West Bank for a week. Those who live in the Old City, in the Arab neighborhood, are no longer at peace.

Dressed in black, with only his face exposed, Drazen speaks to the TSF Frightened, in silence, she seems to be afraid of everything: her people, her children and her husband, who is in the West Bank working with foreign journalists.

“My husband is a cameraman and press assistant and now he is in Ramallah. It is very difficult, there is no security,” she says in an English she does not speak.

There is no vocabulary for so much reason for so much fear. At 42 years old and with five children, Drazen describes these days as “a disease.” A great and strange disease that attacks the body and soul.

“With children it is a big problem,” he laments.

Life for Palestinians has never been easy, not even here in the Arab part of the Holy City, but Drazen lives here and has no intention of leaving his home. “I’m not going anywhere. I live in Jerusalem and I’m going to die in Jerusalem.”

As for what happens on the other side, in Gaza, Drazen leaves everything in the hands of God.
