The Israeli army prevents access to the scene of the Islamist movement Hamas’ massacre at an electronic music party in the desert, where the smell of smoke remains intense more than a week after the attack.
“What happened here was barbaric,” a young Israeli army officer, who preferred to remain anonymous, told reporters on Tuesday.
The military, he stated, is at the site where the Nova Festival took place in the early hours of the 7th “to prevent, guarantee security and ensure that an attack like the one that killed at least 260 people , will never happen again. “
About five kilometers east of the Gaza Strip, the area to which the Lusa agency had access is blocked by soldiers, while field artillery pieces and armored military vehicles have been deployed.
At the site of the massacre, many destroyed civilian cars, clothes scattered on the ground and camping equipment belonging to the festival’s spectators, most of whom were young people, are still visible.
They were targeted by Hamas commandos, who crossed the border into Israel on motorcycles, cars and even flying in ultralights and surprised the people dancing in the desert.
Near the festival site, about three kilometers to the north, is the ‘kibbutz’ (Jewish farming community) of Be’eri, which was also attacked and destroyed by Hamas, killing at least 120 people there.
At the entrance you will see several charred civilian vehicles and abandoned electric golf carts.
According to the Israeli official, Hamas has fired at least 6,000 rockets from Gaza since the 7th against Israeli towns surrounding the enclave, mainly in the north and northeast. The Islamist group Hamas attacked Israel by surprise on October 7, launching thousands of rockets and advancing armed militiamen by land, sea and air, killing more than 1,400.
In response, Israel bombed several Hamas infrastructure in the Gaza Strip and laid siege to the area, cutting off water, fuel and electricity supplies.
The Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip has already killed at least 2,800 Palestinians.
