Gaza health authorities this afternoon accused Israel of attacking a hospital complex in Gaza, killing at least 200 people.
“Two hundred to 300 people were killed in the attacks by the occupiers (Israel) on the complex” of the Ahli Arab hospital in central Gaza, Hamas said in a statement, admitting that there are still “hundreds of victims under the rubble.”
TO Associated Press and Reuters cite another anonymous source from the Ministry of Health who puts the death toll at at least 500.
The Palestinian government claims that this is a “war crime” and explains that the hospital took in “hundreds of sick, wounded and forcibly displaced people,” the document cited by France-Presse (AFP) also reads.
However, a spokesperson for the Israeli military did not confirm whether this episode was a bombing of the hospital.
“Let’s see what happened… The explosion happened very recently,” Daniel Hagari said in a televised news conference, adding that “the details will now be collected to present to the public.”
“I don’t know if I would say this was an Israeli airstrike,” he said of those responsible for what happened.
The president of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, has already declared three days of national mourning.
