Human Rights Watch confirms authenticity of videos showing Hamas killing civilians

The human rights organization Human Rights Watch confirmed the authenticity of four videos showing the killing of civilians carried out by Hamas in three attacks on October 7.

“These attacks must be investigated as war crimes,” Human Rights Watch said in a statement sent to editors this Wednesday.

In a video released by the organization, images captured by security cameras and shared on social networks are analyzed. The images can be considered shocking.

In the first case, in a video captured at 7:55 a.m. a few minutes walk from the place where the Supernova music festival was taking place, seven armed men attack civilians and launch an explosive projectile at a shelter where several people were hiding. . It is unclear if any of the victims survived, but according to CNN reports on October 9, the scene was covered in blood.

In a second video, security camera footage captured at 8:43 a.m. shows a civilian appearing to have been shot dead on the ground in front of Kibbutz Mefalsim. Next to it you can partially see an explosion and other people attacked and killed by armed men.

Another verified video was widely disseminated in the international press. Filmed at 9:23 a.m. in the parking lot near the Supernova music festival site, a gunman can be seen shooting a person crouching next to a car. Another man was shot at point-blank range as he lay almost motionless on the ground, apparently injured, behind a car.

The fourth video analyzed by Human Rights Watch shows the same camera more than two and a half hours later, at 12:12 p.m., showing the same man in the same position, probably dead.

After removing objects from the victim’s pockets, a group of armed men find a woman hiding inside the car and kidnap her.

The international human rights organization analyzed the videos by checking coordinates and time stamps, comparing them with satellite images and shadows to determine the time and place where the attacks occurred.

Under international humanitarian law, intentionally killing civilians is considered a war crime.
