This Thursday, Israel attacked a Palestinian “terrorist squad” with a drone in the Nur Shams refugee camp, in the northwest of the occupied West Bank, killing six people, as part of a military operation that lasted several hours, reported a military source.
An unmanned aerial device of the Israeli army “attacked an armed terrorist squad in the Nur Shams field,” as part of an operation that also resulted in at least ten detainees and clashes, a military spokesman said in a statement.
According to the army, security forces “carried out anti-terrorist actions” in the camp, where they also destroyed “terrorist infrastructure”, confiscated weapons and “neutralized several explosive devices ready for use.”
According to the same source, “there were exchanges of fire with armed men” and, in the midst of the clashes, a group “that posed a threat to soldiers in the area” was attacked with a drone.
According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, six young people died in the attack, after hours before a Palestinian minor died in the same operation.
The Israeli incursion into the area continues since Wednesday night and is the most extensive military operation in the West Bank since the start of the war between Israel and the Islamist movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, on October 7.
Israeli police reported that ten officers were injured in the clashes, one of whom was seriously injured.
Drone attacks had not been carried out in the West Bank since 2006, until Israeli forces resorted to them in June of this year, in an action against Palestinian militants in Jenin, which left three dead.
In early July they were again used in a ground and air offensive against the Jenin refugee camp, which led to the deaths of 12 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier.
Since the start of the war between Israel and the Islamist group Hamas in Gaza 13 days ago, 74 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops and settlers in the West Bank.
More than 520 Palestinians were also detained by Israeli forces in the West Bank, 153 of them in the last few hours.
Israel took control of the West Bank in 1967 and has maintained a long occupation and colonization of the territory since then.
