Humanitarian aid trucks “are the difference between life and death” in Gaza, UN Secretary General António Guterres warned this Friday in Rafah, requesting authorization for the entry of international support.
“We need these trucks to circulate as quickly as possible and in the necessary number,” said António Guterres, highlighting that humanitarian aid convoys are “lifesavers.”
However, the UN Secretary General warned that the aid on the way is not enough to ensure daily support to the Gaza Strip and recalled, on the other hand, that it is necessary to “guarantee that there will be enough fuel” to ensure distribution. of essential goods.
“It is clear that a ceasefire would make things much easier and safer for everyone,” adds Guterres, lamenting the suffering of the millions of people who are beyond Rafah, without water or food.
“It is impossible to be here and not have a broken heart,” he concludes.
The Rafah crossing into the Gaza Strip is the only one not under Israeli control. So far no humanitarian aid has been delivered and countless trucks are waiting to enter the Palestinian enclave.
This Friday, the United Nations Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Aid Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, stated that international aid will not arrive before Saturday.
