Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday warned the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah that it would “make the mistake of its life” if it decided to go to war against Israel.
‘We will make them regret the second Lebanon war [em 2006]… we will attack with a force that you cannot imagine and that will be devastating to the state of Lebanon,” Netanyahu declared during a visit to Israeli forces in the north of the country.
Netanyahu emphasized that, in the event of a battle with Hezbollah, Israel “will respond as strongly as they cannot imagine, to the point that will have devastating consequences for both Hezbollah and the country.”
To the Israeli army, the Israeli Prime Minister told them that they are facing “the fight” of their lives. “It is kill or be killed and you must kill them,” the government official said in a message addressed to the entire army as part of the war against Hamas.
These statements come the day after Hezbollah announced that it already has troops on the border and that Israel will pay a heavy price if it begins a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.
The words of the deputy leader of the Lebanese Shiite group, Naim Kassem, came as Israel bombed and carried out drone strikes in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah fired missiles and rockets at Israel. “We are trying to weaken the Israeli enemy and let them know that we are ready,” he said.
Authorities from the Islamist group Hamas had already stated that if Israel begins a ground offensive in Gaza, Hezbollah will join the fight.
