Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office announced Monday that 508 children in the country have been killed and 1,646 injured as a result of the 20-month Russian invasion.
Donetsk and Kharkiv are the regions where the most children have been affected since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine.
According to data from the Children of War platform There are currently 1,779 children reported missing in Ukraine, while another 19,580 have been found.
The Children of War platform, created as a tool to find, rescue and release children from places of forced displacement or deportation, is updated daily by Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, which admit that it is impossible to determine an exact number of children injured as a result of active hostilities and the temporary occupation of part of Ukrainian territory.
The situation of children in Ukraine during the war, which started with the military offensive launched by Russia on February 24, 2022, led to an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was accused of kidnapping them .
Vladimir Putin justifies the invasion of the neighboring country with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security.
The majority of the international community has responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing political and economic sanctions against Russia.
