Two cargo ships collided this Tuesday in the North Sea, off the German coast. The German Central Maritime Emergency Command indicated, in a statement, that several were missing.
According to German authorities, a British flag ship (Verity) and another from the Bahamas (Polesie) were involved in the accident. The first sank, prompting German authorities to launch a salvage and salvage operation in search of the missing. So far only one person has been rescued.
There were 22 people on board the Bahamas freighter, the same source states.
The collision occurred around five in the morning on Thursday, approximately 22 kilometers southwest of the island of Helgoland and, according to authorities, the ship Verity was heading from Bremen, Germany, to the English port of Immingham.
The Polesie was traveling from Hamburg to A Coruña, in Spain.
