Israel says it killed three Hamas leaders. Night attacks in Gaza leave at least 140 dead

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced this Tuesday that they had launched around 400 strikes against “military targets” in the last 24 hours in Gaza, killing three Hamas leaders.

“During the last day, fighter jets attacked dozens of infrastructure and several meeting points of the Hamas terrorist organization in the neighborhoods of Sajaiya, Shati, Jabalia, Darj Tafa and Zaitun,” the Israeli army said.

“An IDF plane attacked an operational tunnel used by the terrorist organization Hamas (…) and meeting points (…) inside mosques,” the army added.

Also this Tuesday, the Health Ministry of Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, increased the number of Palestinians killed during Israeli bombings this morning from 57 to 140.

The new balance points to at least 53 deaths in the Al Aqsa hospital, in Jabalia, in the north of Gaza, and in the Al Bureij refugee camp, in the center of the enclave.

The Islamist movement also mentioned the existence of “hundreds of injured” and “dozens of destroyed houses.”

More than 5,100 Palestinians, including at least 1,055 children, have been killed in the Gaza Strip since Israeli bombing began in retaliation for the Oct. 7 massacre, Hamas said.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs announced this morning the death of six employees of the UN Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA), the main humanitarian aid organization still able to work in Gaza.

This brings to 35 the number of UNRWA staff killed since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7.

The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, regretted these deaths and said he was with the employees “who are doing everything possible to help those who need it most,” he said in a message published on the social network X.

The Hamas Health Ministry warned, also today, that the health system in the Gaza Strip “has reached the worst phase in its history” due to the total siege of the territory imposed by Israel, with cuts in the water supply, fuel and electricity.

A third humanitarian aid convoy entered the Gaza Strip this Monday through the Rafah crossing, which connects the enclave with the Sinai Peninsula (Egypt), the only access route to the territory not controlled by Israel.

King Mohamed VI of Morocco approved this Monday the sending of emergency humanitarian aid, including food, medical products and water, to the Gaza Strip, which will be coordinated with the Egyptian and Palestinian authorities.
