German authorities on Wednesday suspended the search for four sailors in the North Sea in the area where two cargo ships collided on Tuesday, near the coast of Germany.
The search to find the sailors “was suspended overnight and will not be resumed” this Wednesday, the German maritime rescue company (DGzRS) reported in a statement.
According to the same source, boats and helicopters searched the area during the night in difficult weather conditions, without returning results.
The Bahamian-flagged ships Polesie and Verity collided on Tuesday about 22 kilometers southwest of the island of Helgoland, Germany’s Central Maritime Emergency Command said.
The collision caused one of the two ships carrying seven crew members to sink. In the following hours, two were rescued and one was found dead. There were 22 people on board the Polesie and none of them were injured.
The British-flagged ship Verity was heading from Bremen, Germany, to the English port of Immingham.
