The president of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, defended this Wednesday, in a meeting of the AK Party group, that “Hamas is not a terrorist group” and announced the cancellation of his planned trip to Israel.
“At the last meeting, they met and the entire West considered Hamas a terrorist organization. Israel, the West owes it a lot, but Turkey owes it nothing. Hamas is not a terrorist organization, but a liberation group and mujahideen who fights to protect his land,” says the Turkish president, quoted by CNN Turk.

“Israel is killing children. We can never allow these children to be killed. He told this to the prime minister about him. [Netanyahu] “Once, in Davos, I told him that he knows how to kill very well,” he adds, stressing that Netanyahu “abused his good will” and, therefore, the planned trip to Israel was canceled.
In his speech in parliament, Erdogan also reiterates the “human perspective” that Türkiye has adopted since the conflict in the Middle East began: “We have made every effort to prevent the crisis from worsening.”
“We will continue to oppose dirty campaigns. We will not change this honorable position for everyday interests. Our principled approach to the Palestinian issue is the most concrete example,” concludes.
