Mandatory pick-up of children in Kharkiv province

Ukrainian authorities will remove the children from the Kupiansk district, on the front line of Kharkov province, in the country’s northeast, where Russian forces have carried out intensive daily attacks to retake the area.

“We are preparing an order for the forced evacuation of families with children from ten locations,” the head of the Military Administration of this province bordering Russia, Oleg Siniegubov, told state TV.

The sites are in the Kupiansk district, where Russia launches daily attacks and where fighting rages. According to data available to the Ukrainian authorities, 275 children live in the areas to be evacuated.

All evacuated children must be accompanied by a parent, another relative or an authorized guardian, added Siniegubov, who said he was evacuating other parts of the front under his responsibility.

Western-backed Ukraine has been involved in a counter-offensive in the east and south since June, but so far this has yielded only limited results.

Since November 2022 and the liberation of the Ukrainian city of Kherson (south), the more than a thousand kilometer long front line has hardly moved.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and annexed regions representing almost 15% of Ukraine’s territory, including Donetsk and Luhansk in the east, Kherson and Zaporijia in the south.
