At least 27 people died and four are missing in Acapulco, on the southwest coast of Mexico, after Hurricane Otis.
“Unfortunately, a report was received from the state and municipal governments of 27 people dead and four missing,” said the Secretary of Security and Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, quoted by the France-Presse news agency.
Otis hit Mexico on Wednesday, with winds of 270 kilometers per hour and heavy rains, forcing the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) to classify the phenomenon as a maximum hurricane category (five).
The first report from local authorities reported massive flooding, looting and residents without power or internet service.
