Israel carries out new ground operation in Gaza Strip, attacks Hamas targets

Israel carried out a new ground operation in the Gaza Strip, with the support of fighter jets and ‘drones’ (unmanned aircraft), the Israeli army announced this Friday in a statement.

The operation took place in the central sector of the Gaza Strip and targeted targets belonging to the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, according to the statement cited by the French agency AFP.

The soldiers then left the Palestinian territory without suffering injuries, the army said.

In parallel with the ground operation, targets “belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization” were bombed in the center of the territory “and throughout the Gaza Strip.”

The Israeli military also said it destroyed Hamas rocket launchers and command centers.

He added that he had neutralized Hamas elements, but without giving further details.

On Wednesday night, the army announced that it had carried out a tank attack in the northern Gaza Strip.

Since the Hamas attacks against Israel on October 7, the Israeli army has bombed the Palestinian territory, where it regularly carries out raids, in anticipation of a probable ground offensive, repeatedly promised by the political and military leaders.

The war was triggered by Hamas attacks on Israeli soil, unprecedented in terms of scale and violence, which killed more than 1,400 people, most of them civilians, according to Israel.

Some 220 people are being held hostage after being forcibly taken to the Gaza Strip, where Hamas has been in power since 2007.

Hamas announced that retaliatory bombings had killed more than 7,000 people, the vast majority of them civilians, including more than 2,900 children.
