At least three Palestinians were killed and twelve others were wounded this Friday after shooting during an Israeli army operation in the city of Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.
The director of the Jenin government hospital, Wisam Bakr, identified one of the two victims taken to the hospital as Ayser Muhamad al Amer, 24, an alleged member of the Fatah party’s armed wing, the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
Medical sources told Wafa that al Amer died inside an ambulance, accusing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of having fired at the emergency vehicle, preventing him from reaching the hospital.
Later, after the Israeli army withdrew, civilians found the lifeless body of a third man, Chabad al Turki.
Medical sources confirmed to the agency that twelve young people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, and at least one is in serious condition.
Several witnesses told Wafa that the IDF entered the city of Jenin from several fronts, with more than 40 military vehicles, placing snipers on top of buildings, leading to violent clashes.
They also accused the Israeli army of destroying streets and infrastructure, including the main water supply of the Jenin refugee camp, whose roads were blocked with earthen barriers in an apparent attempt to isolate it.
Palestinian authorities say 109 people have been killed and 1,900 wounded in operations by Israeli forces or settler attacks in the occupied West Bank since October 7.
That day, the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, launched a surprise attack against southern Israel with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen, leaving at least 1,400 dead and 224 hostages.
In response, Israel declared war on Hamas, imposing a full siege on Gaza, cutting off water, fuel and electricity supplies and carrying out bombings that have killed more than 7,000 people, according to Hamas’ Health Ministry.
