The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, called this Friday for the goods verification system in Rafah to be adjusted to allow “many more trucks to enter Gaza without delay”, noting that “history is the judge, all of us “.
“About 500 trucks were crossing Gaza a day before the outbreak of hostilities. In recent days, an average of only 12 trucks were entering a day, even though the needs were much greater than at any time before,” said Guterres, stressing that the humanitarian aid system in Gaza faces a “total collapse with unimaginable consequences” for more than two million civilians.
Given the dire humanitarian situation, the United Nations will not be able to continue delivering aid inside the Gaza Strip without immediate and fundamental change in the way in which aid is arriving, highlighted the leader of the organization in an official statement.
In this sense, the former Portuguese prime minister asked that the system for controlling the movement of goods through the Rafah crossing be adjusted to allow the number of trucks entering Gaza to be significantly higher.
“Everyone must assume their responsibilities. This is the moment of truth. History is judging us all,” he stated.
